Asociación Mexicana de Ayuda a Niños con Cancer (AMANC) Peninsular A.C. AMANC was founded in June of 1982 by Sra. Guadalupe Alejandra. Sra. Guadalupe Alejandra was inspired to begin AMANC after her experience living in the Instituto Nacional de Pediactria where her son Pablo was receiving treatment for leukemia, unfortunately Pablo did not survive his fight with leukemia. AMANC's mission is to provide support and an opportunity for medical treatment to all Mexicans under the age of 20 who have been diagnosed with cancer and who are of a lower income. To date AMANC has provided direct help to almost four thousand children and their families. AMANC Peninsular is also currently in the process of building a home (similar to the Ronald McDonald Houses) where parents of child cancer patients can stay while their children are being treated. Last year funds from Murder Mystery Theatre went towards the support of a 13 year old boy who underwent the very first bone marrow transplant in Mérida. Visit AMANC's website here. Evolución Animal. Evolución Animal A.C. is an animal protection non profit organization that shelters dogs in the south of Mérida, close to Umán. Evolución has more than 100 dogs waiting for a chance to be adopted. Evolución is not only a shelter, but a sanctuary for abused and mistreated dogs. It is a home for the "malix pek" (mixed breed or street dogs) who have difficulties getting adopted simply because they are not pure bred. In Evolución these dogs have a home. Evolución is also involved in community education for animal issues and also works closely with local and state governments to enforce and strengthen existing animal protection laws. Last year funds from Murder Mystery Theatre went towards the care and welfare of the dogs of Evolución Animal. Visit Evolucion's website here.
